On-demand ridesharing with optimized pick-up and drop-off walking locations

چکیده

On-demand systems in which passengers with similar routes can share a vehicle are expected to become relevant part of future mobility, thanks their flexibility and potential impact on reducing congestion. Nevertheless, due the long detours required by door-to-door scheme, they induce extra costs users terms delay. In this paper, we face design such system might be requested online walk towards/from nearby pick-up/drop-off points if improves overall efficiency. We show theoretically that general problem becomes more complex (as it contains two sub-problems extend set-cover), analyze trade-offs emerge, provide formulation specific heuristics able solve over large instances. test real dataset Manhattan taxi trips (9970 requests during one hour), finding (a) average walks about minute reduce number rejections than 80% Vehicles-Hour-Traveled 10%, (b) who depart or arrive at most demanded areas likely walk, (c) performance improvement service is larger when receives trip requests.

A Continuous Plane Model to Machine Layout Problems Considering Pick-Up and Drop-Off Points: An Evolutionary Algorithm

One of the well-known evolutionary algorithms inspired by biological evolution is genetic algorithm (GA) that is employed as a robust and global optimization tool to search for the best or near-optimal solution with the search space. In this paper, this algorithm is used to solve unequalsized machines (or intra-cell) layout problems considering pick-up and drop-off (input/output) points. Such p...

Harnessing fluid-driven vesicles to pick up and drop off Janus particles.

Using dissipative particle dynamics (DPD) simulations, we model the interaction between nanoscopic lipid vesicles and Janus nanoparticles in the presence of an imposed flow. Both the vesicle and Janus nanoparticles are localized on a hydrophilic substrate and immersed in a hydrophilic solution. The fluid-driven vesicle successfully picks up Janus particles on the substrate and transports these ...

The Hitchhiker’s guide to the pick-up locations

Background: Hitchhiking is a well-known form of transportation, which has been extensively studied from a sociological perspective. While this tourism approach has been popular in some countries for decades, the question of making hitchhiking fast has never been studied from a comprehensive point of view. In this research, we aim to find the best locations for hitchhiking, which may be used in ...

Effects of Fluid Viscosity on Drop-on-Demand Ink-Jet Break-Off

Simulations of the jetting of Newtonian fluids from drop-ondemand print heads show that the radial jet pinch-off region, which may lie inside the nozzle, is strongly affected by the fluid viscosity over the range of values that are commonly used. Jet profiles beyond the nozzle exit predicted in these simulations match previously published high resolution images very well and validate the code u...

Approximating Large Frequency Moments with Pick-and-Drop Sampling

Given data stream D = {p1, p2, . . . , pm} of size m of numbers from {1, . . . , n}, the frequency of i is defined as fi = |{j : pj = i}|. The kth frequency moment of D is defined as Fk = ∑n i=1 f k i . We consider the problem of approximating frequency moments in insertion-only streams for k ≥ 3. For any constant c we show an O(n log(n) log(n)) upper bound on the space complexity of the proble...
